Birds live alongside us — in nests on linden trees, in house attics, in gardens and parks. But first and foremost, they are heroes of fairy tales, legends, parables, carols, Shchedrivkas, and lullabies, where they play a special role. They can easily reach Iriy (Slavic paradise), open it with their keys, act as creator-demiurges, and harbingers of the gods' will. These birds are capable of prophesying the fate of entire nations or simply helping a mother soothe her infant through the words of lullabies and rhymes. On the pages of this book, you'll encounter the fiery primordial bird, which ancient Ukrainians called Sokil-Rid and considered the Creator of the Universe. You'll enter the Garden of Eden to admire its inhabitants — the bird-maidens. You'll also find a bird court, where, alongside the Judge-bird, you'll try to act justly. You'll learn many interesting facts about the Muscovy cuckoo, the golden-key bird, and the winged messengers of Dazhbog and Veles. However, be careful: the book also discusses unclean birds, associated with the otherworld and evil forces, as, according to beliefs, they foretell misfortune and bring trouble on their wings.
