This collection includes three works by Olga Kobylianska.

The novel «Apostle of Darkness» is a deep psychological novel that reveals to the reader the history of several generations of a Ukrainian family from Bukovina. Olga Kobylianska masterfully combines the individual destinies of her characters with a broad historical context, creating a panorama of Ukrainian society at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.
The novella «Niobe» is a philosophical narrative based on the Greek myth of Niobe, a mother of many children, all of whom suffered a terrible fate. This myth has been retold countless times in world literature, but Olga Kobylianska breathed new life into this dramatic story, creating a true story about a Ukrainian prototype of Niobe, whom the author herself knew.
The novella «The Earth» is a masterpiece of Ukrainian realism. Thanks to its truthfulness and artistry, this work has become one of the most famous in our literature. The protagonist of the novella, Ivonyka Fedorchuk, spent his whole life on the land. He loved it, respected it, and worked hard on it, hoping that it would bring happiness to his sons. However, the struggle for land that had been going on in his family led to a fratricidal tragedy, and Ivonyka lost not only his son but also his faith in the land.
