Ukrainian poet, prose writer, translator, publicist, public activist, and musician. He is called the voice of his generation and one of the most important figures of postmodern Ukrainian literature. Zhadan’s work is distinguished by a combination of lyricism, social criticism, surreal imagery, and irony. In his works, he deeply focuses on the themes of post-Soviet reality, the industrial landscapes of Eastern Ukraine, and the lives of people in the border territories. Following 2014, his activity became inextricably linked with Eastern Ukraine. He constantly organizes charity concerts and cultural events in frontline cities and provides humanitarian aid to the residents of Donbas through the Serhiy Zhadan Charitable Foundation. He is the frontman of the ska-punk band «Zhadan and the Dogs.» In the spring of 2024, he announced his enlistment into the National Guard of Ukraine.
