Mykhail Semenko

A bright and controversial figure of the Ukrainian avant-garde, one of the most influential poets of the early 20th century. He was an active participant in Ukrainian cultural life, one of the founders of futurist groups. He was one of the leaders of Ukrainian futurism. He promoted new forms of art, rejecting traditional literary canons. His poetry was dynamic, rhythmic, often on the verge of prose. After the Stalinist repressions, Semenko's works were banned, and his name was erased from the history of Ukrainian literature for a long time.
