Today We’re Going to Draw Death

Wojciech Tochman, a renowned Polish journalist, examines the 1994 genocide that claimed one million lives in one hundred days. The author focuses on the “aftermath of the aftermath”: what happens to a society when trauma becomes part of a nation’s DNA? Through conversations with witnesses, perpetrators, and survivors, Tochman seeks to understand whether reconciliation is possible after unimaginable violence.
This edition is a powerful example of literary reportage by an author who has spent many years exploring themes of loss and the search for missing persons, including through the ITAKA Foundation. Tochman candidly documents the consequences of inaction by the international community, the United Nations, and the churches, compelling readers to pause and reflect on the value of human life and the meaning of collective responsibility.
