The Tale of the Walnut Root

A terrible calamity has come to Tarasyk’s native land: the orchards are withering beneath the baleful glow of the Red Star, birdsong has fallen silent, food has vanished without a trace, and an unbreakable sleep has descended upon the people. All the clues lead to the treacherous Red Lord and his sinister servants — the Broom, the Boots, and the Two-Headed Eagle. Brave Tarasyk, together with his faithful Little Rooster, decides to challenge the enemy and sets out on a dangerous journey. Their mission is to find the mysterious tree upon which the human race depends.
The Tale of the Walnut Root introduces young readers, in an allegorical and accessible way, to the tragic events of Ukraine’s past, reminding them that even in the darkest of times, goodness, friendship, and truth will always prevail.
