The House You Loved, Mom

In the huts of Eastern Galicia, an atmosphere of anticipation for grand changes hangs in the air. Meanwhile, young Nastia deeply mourns her mother, finding it difficult to accept her father's new wife, her stepmother Justyna, into their home.
When her younger brother Mykola becomes a UPA rebel, it is the memories of his stepmother's tenderness and her lullaby stories that warm him in the cold night forest, helping him not to lose hope. This is especially true now, since he cannot see Justyna because she is being hidden by strangers. Perhaps this is why Mykola falls in love with a girl who shares her name and, risking his own life, tries to save her from the NKVD.
The fates of the warrior Mykola Venher and Father Mykola Konrad are closely intertwined, creating a dramatic tapestry of events in which many Ukrainians can recognize the stories of their own families. Every story in this book is true and was verified by the author through the testimonies of the main characters' loved ones.
