Lisbeth Salander returns to Sweden after a long journey, hoping to begin a new life. But the calm does not last for long. In Stockholm, a brutal double murder is committed: two young journalists who had been preparing an exposé for Millennium on an international sex-trafficking syndicate involving high-ranking officials are found dead. Soon afterward, another body is discovered — Lisbeth’s guardian.
All the evidence, including Lisbeth’s fingerprints on the murder weapon, points to Salander. The police launch a nationwide manhunt for her. The only person who does not believe she is guilty is journalist Mikael Blomkvist. He begins his own investigation to clear his friend’s name, but to do so, both of them will have to untangle a web of horrifying secrets leading back to Lisbeth’s own dark past.
