Song of the Open Road

After fighting in the Crimean War, fate throws him to America, where he fights for the North during the Civil War. There, Hnat finds a true friend in a former slave, Sam. Together, they embark on a journey across America, which gradually turns into a profound search for their own identities.
This book, which seemingly describes a past foreign war in a distant country, inevitably gives the feeling that it is much more about us than about them.
