Six Crimson Cranes

Shiori’anma, the only princess of the kingdom of Kiata, hides a dangerous secret — forbidden magic pulses through her veins. On the morning of her betrothal, she loses control of her power, and at first the mistake seems like a stroke of luck that allows her to postpone an unwanted marriage. But Shiori’s magic draws the attention of her stepmother Raikama, who is herself a sorceress, and she banishes her stepdaughter, turning Shiori’s six brothers into cranes.
Raikama places a cruel curse on the girl: for every word that falls from Shiori’s lips, one of her brothers will die. Alone and voiceless, Shiori sets out in search of her brothers and soon discovers that a dark conspiracy is unfolding around the throne. To restore order to the kingdom, she will have to place her trust in a paper bird, a capricious dragon, and the boy whose hand in marriage she has so long and stubbornly avoided — and finally embrace the magic she has been taught to suppress all her life.
