Brief History of a Long War

A graphic narrative about the war Ukraine has been enduring for years, and one we have both the right and the need to speak about in our own voice. It presents the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation as a long historical process, stretching from its medieval origins to the present day, and emphasizes its deep political roots and recurring patterns across time. At the same time, this is not only a story about the past, but also a book about our present — about people whose lives have been changed by war forever. It reminds us that behind every major historical event lies a deeply personal and painful question: will I survive or not? For that reason, this graphic narrative combines a broad historical perspective with vivid human experience, helping readers see the war as Ukrainians feel it. It is a powerful, profound, and visually striking book that reflects on the events that shaped Ukraine in the past and continue to shape it today. At the same time, it is not only a testimony to pain and loss, but also a reminder of the continuity of Ukraine’s struggle, its inner strength, and its hope — because history ultimately remembers those who never stop fighting.
