Lesya Ukrainka, born Larysa Kosach, is an iconic figure in Ukrainian culture, with not only streets but also an asteroid named in her honor. She initiated the literary circle «Pleiade» was fluent in seven languages, and enriched the Ukrainian language with the word "promin" (ray). Her body of work includes not only brilliant poems and dramas but also outstanding prose. The writer herself recalled, «It was easy for me to embark on a literary path, as I come from a literary family». The Kosach family often played literary games. This is how «The Canape» came about, which later became the basis for her longest story, «The Regret». Or «The City of Sorrow» which was born after the author observed mentally ill patients while visiting her uncle, who was in charge of a psychiatric hospital. Lesya Ukrainka's experiments with genres and plots are no less captivating. This collection features more than twenty prose works from various periods.
This collection offers a deeper insight into Lesya Ukrainka's multifaceted talent as a prose writer and her contribution to the development of Ukrainian literature.
