Kira Argunova is a freedom-loving woman who does not want to adapt to a totalitarian system. She tries to escape from her slimy embrace and save her beloved Leo. But it is not so simple, because in this world good and evil have mixed, and people have become soulless.
Kira faces many obstacles. Relatives and friends betray her, and party idealists do not want to take risks and make compromises. But Kira does not give up. She continues to fight for her freedom and love.
This novel is Ayn Rand's manifesto against communism. He talks about the horrors of totalitarianism and the power of the human spirit. The book was first published in 1936.
