The Nightingale

The inferno of World War II engulfs France. The Nazis have occupied cities and villages, enemy planes streak across the sky, and despair, death, and suffering reign supreme. Viviane Moriac, a village teacher, sends her husband off to war and wages a daily fierce battle for the survival of her family. She struggles with hunger and poverty, sharing a roof with the enemy and enduring inhuman suffering.
Her 18-year-old sister Isabelle joins the Resistance. Together with like-minded people, she believes in the resilience of France and the inevitable victory over the enemy. While thousands of French people submit to the invaders, trying to adapt to the horrific conditions, the fragile girl, hunted by the Wehrmacht and the SS, becomes an elusive guide. She saves dozens of military pilots, transporting them via a secret route through the Pyrenees.
Viviane and Isabelle are very different personalities, but the war challenges them, and each one goes her own way, accomplishing her own personal feat.
