Valerian Pidmohylny was a Ukrainian writer and translator, one of the most prominent prose writers of the Ukrainian «Shot Revival».
The novel «The Little Drama» is a story about a young, cheerful and interesting girl Marta, who sincerely believes in love and dreams of falling in love truly. She really has enough suitors: a pragmatic engineer, a rational professor, a sausage department worker, and others. When the girl does not reciprocate the feelings of men, the offended rejected guys in every possible way slander Marta and even resort to violence. However, a new feeling bursts into the girl's life — passion, which the girl confuses with true love.
This book is considered one of the most outstanding works of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century. She is praised for her psychological depth, masterful command of language and topical themes. This novel contains in itself vain girlish hopes for marriage, betrayal and disappointment, cold calculation and unexpected intimacy.
