Thank You for Every New Morning

An autobiographical novel by the Czech writer of Ukrainian descent, Halyna Pavlovska, tells the story of the life and growing up of a girl named Olga, who is the author's alter ego.

The plot of the book unfolds against the backdrop of the dramatic events of 1968 in Czechoslovakia: the occupation of the country by Soviet troops and the following 20 years of totalitarian rule. Despite the difficult circumstances, Olga, the niece of a Ukrainian bourgeois nationalist, strives to live a full life. Her path is full of friendship, love, loss, funny stories, and ups and downs related to her Ukrainian family. The novel describes the unique atmosphere of Prague and shows how people tried to live in difficult conditions and find joy in times of totalitarianism.
The work is full of witty humor, subtle irony, and unexpected subtexts. The author skillfully uses literary techniques to convey the emotions and experiences of the heroine.
