Orest, a bohemian young man from Odessa, receives an unexpected offer from a stranger – to star in an experimental film. He hopes that this will be the start of his career, but instead he becomes a participant in bizarre relationships, where the stories of the characters of the future film, their prototypes and the actors themselves are intertwined.
The space where the plot unfolds is fragile and mosaic, but this is what makes it Odessa with one "s" – a different Odessa, without the mask of an eternal joker and a dashing bandit, imposed on it by Soviet and post-Soviet pop culture. This is the city of beautiful nudity of beaches, languor of bars and clubs, carnival bustle of the Seventh Kilometer. The city of Dovzhenko and Yanovsky, Ukrainian revolution and freedom, the city of love and creativity that knows no bounds.
In this story, reality and fiction are intertwined, erasing the boundaries between life and art. The characters are looking for themselves and their place in this city of contrasts, where beauty and darkness, joy and tragedy go hand in hand.
This is not just a novel, but also a kind of study of the essence of Odessa. The author describes the city, its atmosphere and the people who live in it with love and trepidation.
