Sweet Darusia

«Sweet Darusya» by Maria Matios is a story about one woman, but it is also a story about Ukraine during the Soviet occupation.
Darusya is a girl who grew up in a happy family. She was a completely normal child, and even happy at one point. But then the "reds" came to their village. The Soviet government took everything from Darusya: her family, her home, her dreams.
Darusya stopped talking to people. They called her "sweet", and some even thought she was mentally ill. But only older people understood that Darusya was perfectly normal. She understood everything, she just didn't want to talk.

«Sweet Darusya» is a tragic story that breaks your heart. But it is also a story that teaches us a historical lesson. It shows that the Soviet government was cruel and ruthless. It destroyed millions of lives, including Darusya's.
