The Road to Serfdom by F. A. Hayek

In this book, which became one of the most influential of the 20th century, Austrian economist and philosopher Friedrich Hayek argues that collectivism, even with the best intentions, leads to totalitarianism and slavery. The author asserts that economic freedom is an essential part of political freedom. When the state takes control of the economy, it gains too much power over people.
