The collection contains two plays by Ivan Kotlyarevsky, which are classics of Ukrainian literature and are recommended for study in the 9th grade of general education schools. The plays of Ivan Kotlyarevsky are characterized by vividly created characters from different strata of society, accurately drawn relationships between people, live language and songs.

«Natalka Poltavka» is a socio-domestic drama that realistically depicts life in a Ukrainian village in the 19th century. The protagonist, Mykola, loves Natalka, but his father wants to marry him off to a wealthy widow.                      «Moskal-Charivnyk» is a vaudeville that humorously reinterprets the plot of marital infidelity. The protagonist, Petro, is married to Vasylyna, but falls in love with a young widow. Vasylyna, upon learning of this, turns to a witch to help her get her husband back. The witch promises that Petro will be her slave, but in the end she herself falls in love with him.
