Lucian. True History

Among those who have taught Europe to laugh and ridicule, to imagine and doubt for centuries, Lucian of Samosata holds a prominent place. Perhaps Thomas More would not have written his «Utopia» and Jonathan Swift his «Gulliver's Travels» if they had not been inspired in their time by Lucian's «True History».
Antiquity has left almost no mention of this author's life (except for a few scant and unreliable autobiographical accounts), but it has wonderfully preserved his stories and dialogues, which reveal a sharp mind, amazing erudition, a lively and tireless imagination, inspired by a cynical impulse.
In addition to «True History» perhaps Lucian's most famous work, the edition includes dialogues that significantly complement the writer's portrait — «Twice Accused» and «The Parasite».
