Fieldwork in Ukrainian Sex

This novel by Oksana Zabuzhko became one of the most candid and controversial works of Ukrainian literature. It tells the story of the life and search for identity of a young Ukrainian poetess who is trying to understand herself and her place in the world. However, this is not just a novel about sex, it is a novel about what it meant to be a woman in Ukraine in the mid-1990s, what it meant to be a creative person at that time, and what it meant to be Ukrainian.
