During his lifetime, the author managed to write only one book, but his poems became extremely famous, creating the basis for the Ukrainian resistance movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Symonenko's work is dominated by the theme of love for Ukraine and its people, which is reflected in his poems, poems, sonnets, ballads, fairy tales, fables and short stories. Most of these works were published by the poet during his lifetime, but only in independent Ukraine were they published in full and without censorship.
