One of the most prominent figures in Ukrainian history and politics, he was not only a talented writer but also an active participant in the revolutionary events of the early 20th century, serving as the first Chairman of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Volodymyr Vynnychenko was one of the founders of the Neo-Romantic movement in Ukrainian literature and a leader of the Ukrainian Social Democratic Party. In 1917, he headed the government of the Ukrainian People's Republic. After the fall of the Ukrainian People's Republic, Vynnychenko emigrated to Europe.
