Collection: Euripides
One of the most distinguished figures in ancient Greek literature, Euripides is one of the three great tragedians (along with Aeschylus and Sophocles). His work is characterized by deep psychological insight, a critical approach to myths and religious beliefs, and an innovative approach to drama. Over his lifetime, Euripides wrote about 90 tragedies, of which around 19 have survived, either fully or in part. Euripides did not merely retell myths but subjected them to critical analysis, exposing their contradictions and imperfections. Euripides' work had a significant impact on the development of not only ancient Greek but also world drama. His innovative ideas were taken up and developed by subsequent generations of playwrights.
