A prominent Ukrainian scholar, historian, philologist, Orientalist, linguist, writer, and translator, Ahatanhel Krymsky was one of the most influential figures in Ukrainian science in the 20th century. Known for his encyclopedic knowledge, Krymsky mastered over 60 languages and made significant contributions to various fields, including history, philology, and Oriental studies. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, serving as its secretary and guiding it to become a leading scientific center in Europe. Despite his immense contributions, Krymsky fell victim to the Stalinist purges and died in a labor camp in 1942.
