«Eneid» is the first major monument of Ukrainian literature, written in colloquial Ukrainian. The poem laid the foundation for the development of modern Ukrainian literature.
The poem tells the story of the adventures of the Trojan chieftain Aeneas, who, after the destruction of his homeland by enemies, founds the long-desired state in Rome, the future empire, with his Cossack army after several years of wanderings.
«Eneid» is a burlesque-travesty poem, that is, it combines a high classical plot line with humorous and satirical elements. The poem is written in iambic tetrameter, which is traditional for classical poetry.
